GURLS TALK TOGETHER
A DIGITAL EVENT ON COPING WITH CHANGE AND ADAPTATION
STREAMING ON YOUTUBE
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NIKE
Starting on Saturday 9th May at 12pm EST , Gurls Talk will be hosting a digital event in partnership with NIKE. The digital event will take place on YouTube Live and will be hosted by founder of Gurls Talk Adwoa Aboah.
Programming will be centered around coping with change and adaptation in response to the current COVID-19 crisis. With communities unable to interact in person, Gurls Talk Together seeks to create a safe space online where womxn everywhere can come together and feel supported and connected to one another.
The event programme will include a themed panel discussion, a sports enablement dance class and a live DJ set.
The panel will be moderated by Gurls Talk Chief Clinical Advisor Dr. Ciara Dockery and see Adwoa Aboah Lexi Brumback of Netflix’s Cheer , esteemed ballet dancer Eric Underwood and record-breaking Belgian athlete Nafi Thiam in conversation. The panel discussion will focus on how each panellist is adjusting to life in lockdown, how it has impacted their craft and what they are doing to maintain their mental wellbeing. Following this conversation, an interactive Q&A will take place, where participants have the opportunity to pose questions to the panellists.
Next on the programme, Nike Trainer Joelle D'fontaine will lead participants in an upbeat all-levels dance class. The purpose of the class is to promote moving your body, staying active and connected to your community, as well as letting loose and relieving some of the anxieties lockdown is causing.
The Gurls Talk digital event will close out with a high energy DJ set from Lil C , providing a soundtrack where participants can wind down post-dance class, enjoy the music and feel positive.
As with all Gurls Talk events, the festival will be free and open to absolutely anyone who would like to attend
Speaking on the upcoming event, Adwoa explains:
“What has helped me the most during these strange times has been staying connected to my loved ones and the amazing Gurls Talk community. When you're physically apart, it’s easy to feel alone in all this, even though so many of us are feeling the same way. Our upcoming event is an important reminder that you are NOT alone, we are all learning to adjust and cope with uncertainty. And our shared experience can be a powerful way to connect and grow. So I hope you'll join us on Saturday for a cozy chat and fun dance party to let loose, lean into your community and most importantly, give yourself a break!”
